Introduction
Scientists are often questioned as to whether what they do is ethical or not. Doing medical testing on humans and animals, in my opinion, is surely unethical. The topic we have chosen for our Fire Project is medical testing on animals. The issue here is how scientists test prescribed drugs on different varieties of animals. The other issue with this is that most people are oblivious as to what happens to these animals, and I think this is a problem everyone should be aware of.
We chose this topic because we are both interested in pursuing a career in the science field. I want to focus more specifically in pharmacology and toxicology, and Anel wants to pursue a career as medical assistant, and in a way it relates to. We also choose this topic because this is a topic we were oblivious to as well as many other people. Before coming to Social Justice High School, we had never even though about medical testing. And coming to this school opened our eyes to the unethical doings in the science filed. We find it really interesting how scientists think that it is acceptable to test on animals for the sake of science, but they often don’t take into consideration what the animals might feel, or if it is even right to do that type of testing.
What we hope to accomplish through this project is to bring awareness to this topic. As we mentioned before, most people are oblivious to medical testing done on animals, and we think that that should change. There should be awareness to this topic and, in my opinion, it should be stopped. Scientist should not be able to do medical testing on animals because it is unfair and hurtful to the animals, and completely unethical.
