Jacky's Reflection
1) How and why did you choose your topic?
As I mentioned before, I choose this topic because I am interested in pursuing a career in the science field, more specifically in pharmacology and toxicology. So, I thought that the issue of medical testing on animals could relate to what I intend on studying in the future. I also choose this topic because I think that it is something everyone is aware of nut is oblivious to. I find it interesting that for the name of science, as a society we accept for scientist to test all types of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics on animals. And another factor that contributed to us choosing this topic was that we both have pets, and we could never imagine our pets going through he process of being guinea pig for scientists.
2) What were the total hours spent working on your project? Discuss your experiences as you worked on it.
Since we didn't work on our project up until one week before it was due, we would say we spent around 2-4 hours each day working on our project. Most of that time was us doing research on our issue, which was the hardest information to find, especially for local context. After doing the research came the somewhat easy part of just putting all the information together. It was hard to find good information that could be useful to incorporate into our research paper and the website. Overall, doing the fire project took patience and a lot of planning.
3) What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their Capstone Project next year?
The advice I would give to students next year doing the Capstone or Fire Project, is to choose a topic you feel passionate about. By doing so, you will have fun doing research and will actually learn more information about a topic you enjoy. I would also advise them to do their research in a timely manner, since I didn't really do that and was stressing all the time up to the due date. If teachers give you time in class to work on the project, take advantage of that time! And I would also advise them to ask teachers whenever you have a question or is stuck. If you don’t know how to approach a certain part of the project, ask teachers, and I am sure they will help in whatever you need help.
